Full power for resilient energy solutions: DEUTZ and HDC Solutions enter into a strategic partnership

  • Alliance for uninterrupted power supply for military and critical infrastructures

  • Power generators and storage systems from DEUTZ meet intelligent software from HDC Solution

  • GridCube: Modular and deployable energy management for decentralized, self-sufficient and resilient deployment scenarios

Cologne/Paris, June 16, 2026 – DEUTZ will be working closely with HDC Solutions in future. The two companies today signed a cooperation agreement at EUROSATORY, the leading international trade fair for defense and security, in Paris. HDC Solutions, based in Ingolstadt, specializes in resilient energy and mobility systems for defense/military, critical infrastructures (KRITIS), and the public sector. The aim of the partnership is to jointly develop highly resilient energy solutions and autonomous emergency power systems for critical infrastructures and military applications in Germany and abroad.

“Modern threat scenarios and increasing electrification today require more than simple backup power solutions. What is needed are intelligent systems that can control, prioritize, and safeguard complex energy flows in an emergency,” explains Dr. Sebastian Schulte, CEO of DEUTZ AG. “This is precisely where we come in: with our solutions, we will make a significant contribution to continuous energy supply – the foundation of comprehensive national defense capability – and systematically meet the rapidly growing demand for such systems.”

Marco Herre, CEO of the DEUTZ Business Unit Defense, adds: “In HDC Solutions, we have found a partner that complements our high-performance hardware with highly intelligent software. This enables us to offer our customers integrated complete systems from a single source and ensure continued energy supply for critical infrastructure, federal properties, or military camps in the event of defense.” The partnership is the next logical step for DEUTZ in achieving its stated revenue target of at least 300 million euros in the defense sector by 2030.

Philipp Czasch, CEO and founder of HDC Solutions, on the cooperation: “The partnership with an established company in the defense sector is an enormous step forward for us as a young company. We will benefit from DEUTZ’s experience and production know-how and will in future be able not only to market our software as a product and service, but also to supply the appropriate hardware. It is important for us, in addition to product sales, to ensure the corresponding support and the necessary training of operating personnel. Because one thing is clear: nothing works without energy. That is why we must continue to strengthen the foundation of our comprehensive national defense capability. I am more than convinced that together with DEUTZ we will succeed in this.”

DEUTZ is contributing a broad portfolio of power generators and storage systems as well as system and integration expertise on the hardware side to the cooperation. HDC Solutions provides software that dynamically prioritizes energy flows in mobile and stationary systems and ensures the continuity of critical operations and consumers at any time. As a spin-off of the Bundeswehr University Munich, HDC Solutions has a high level of military and operational experience on all continents of the world.

GridCube: Modular, intelligent, and deployable energy management system
An initial key component of the partnership between DEUTZ and HDC Solutions is the GridCube, which was jointly developed in cooperation with the Institute of Thermodynamics and Sustainable Propulsion Systems (ITNA) at Graz University of Technology. It connects and controls any power sources and storage systems with different consumers in a networked and decentralized architecture, without interruption. The public power grid can also be integrated as an energy source. GridCube is characterized by its modularity and intelligent control for prioritizing loads and consumers.

Modern security environment requires holistic energy concepts
The importance of such solutions is exemplified by incidents such as the large-scale power outage in Berlin, the biggest blackout since the Second World War, in which 45,000 households were without electricity for days. The blackout in the heart of Europe and in Germany’s largest city clearly demonstrated how vulnerable regional grids and critical infrastructure are. In hybrid conflicts, attacks are increasingly targeting the lifelines of modern societies – maintaining basic public services is therefore becoming a core security policy task.

Energy demand has also been rising continuously for decades in the military sector: modern communications and radar systems, military data centers, autonomous systems and battle management software, mobile and stationary command-and-logistics systems, as well as high-performance weapons systems all require a highly available, interruption-free power supply. At the same time, these systems are increasingly moving into the focus of hostile attacks on energy infrastructure.

About DEUTZ
DEUTZ has evolved in recent years from a manufacturer of conventional engines into a system provider for innovative and sustainable mobility and energy solutions. Founded in 1864 in Cologne, where it is still based today, DEUTZ is the world’s oldest engine company. The development, production, and distribution of high-performance drive systems for off-highway applications remains at the heart of its operations. DEUTZ is also playing its part in the transition to more sustainable transportation and power supplies by offering alternative drive solutions and decentralized energy and power generation systems. DEUTZ solutions are used in a wide range of applications, including construction equipment, agricultural machinery, material handling equipment such as forklift trucks and lifting platforms, stationary equipment such as generator sets (gensets), and commercial and rail vehicles. The broad-based product portfolio is complemented by an extensive service offering that encompasses maintenance and repair work, the supply of spare parts, and remanufacturing. This is being continually expanded with the addition of digital, data-driven services. With around 1,250 sales and service locations in nearly 180 countries, DEUTZ offers its customers an integrated range of products and services from a single source. DEUTZ employs around 6,000 people worldwide and generated revenue of just over €2.0 billion in 2025.
